Doster
Head Rodeo Coach
|
Kelly Doster begins his third year as the Head Coach of the Odessa College Wrangler rodeo program. Coach Doster
served in the agricultural & science programs
at the high school level for five years in Boyd,
Texas and for five years in Kerrville, Texas. With
personal collegiate rodeo experience, first at
Weatherford College, then subsequently at Sul
Ross State University, Doster takes over the
prestigious college rodeo program at Odessa College. Doster
is replacing Jim Watkins, the only rodeo coach
in the history of Odessa College rodeo.
During his two years as the coach of the Wranglers, Odessa College has qualified five student-athletes for the National Collegiate Rodeo Finals, with two top ten individual finishes at the national finals. The Odessa College men’s team has finished in the top five of the always strong Southwest Region in both seasons that Doster has been the coach, while also achieving one top five women’s finish. The Southwest Region includes eighteen two and four year institutions, and annually competes for the national team title.
Coming from a ranch and rodeo family gives Coach
Doster the perfect background to lead the agriculture
and rodeo programs at Odessa College. A
competitor in the steer wrestling event at the
college level, Kelly continues to compete in
this event professionally within the Professional
Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA).
Doster holds a bachelor of science degree from
Sul Ross State University in agriculture business
plus a degree in agricultural services and development
from Tarleton State University. Currently,
Coach Doster is taking course work from Sul Ross
to obtain his masters degree. Kerry
Doster, the brother of Kelly, is the current
rodeo coach at Sul Ross State University. Coach
Doster is married to Lisa, and they have three
children, Kelsey (12), Kourtney (10) and Keller (4). |
