Gabe
Henry is in his first season as assistant coach
on Coach Ara Baten’s staff.
Since joining the Lady Wrangler staff in August
2009, Henry has been actively involved in day-to-day
operations in the women’s basketball office, helping
with academics, player development, and organizing the players’ strength
and conditioning program. Another essential part of Henry’s position is
organizing individual workouts, overseeing the defensive scheme, and working
with the perimeter players. He is also heavily involved with scouting opponents,
organizing video operations, and recruiting for the Lady Wranglers.
Henry came to Odessa from Gonzaga University,
where he served under Kelly Graves for two seasons
as a Director of Basketball Operations. Henry
oversaw various administrative duties of the
Zag’s program including video exchange and
editing, day-to-day operations, travel, scouting, player evaluations, and player
development. Henry also helped organized and coach at the Gonzaga Women’s
summer camps.
During Henry’s two year tenure at Gonzaga, he played a role which included
a first for the Gonzaga women’s basketball program. Henry helped guide
the Zags to a first round NCAA tournament win, Gonzaga Women’s Basketball’s
first-ever NCAA Tournament post-season win in school history. Henry also helped
the Zags capture two West Coast Conference Regular Season Championships in 2008
and 2009, and the West Coast Conference Tournament Championships in 2009. The
Zags also had a West Coast Conference Tournament second place finish in 2008
and made the 2nd round of the WNIT tournament in 2008 respectively. During Henry’s
tenured at Gonzaga, the Zags posted a 50-16 overall
record.
Prior to joining the Gonzaga Women’s basketball staff, Henry spent two
years at Missouri Valley College where he was a student assistant for the men’s
basketball team under head coach Chad Lance. At Missouri Valley College, Henry
assisted with the coaching staff, was a video coordinator, helped with a variety
of daily assignments, assisted with practices, and gained valuable knowledge
of running a program. Prior to joining the staff Henry played guard for two seasons
at Missouri Valley College.
He received his bachelor's degree from Missouri
Valley College in May 2007 in Physical Education
K-12 certification. Henry earned his Master’s
degree in Sport and Athletic Administration from
Gonzaga in December 2009. |
